Juha-Pekka Manninen won his third European Championship in his homewaters Imatra. Race was held in River Vuoksi. Second was Riku Lehtonen and third Sandra Roms, so race was really dominated by finnish drivers. First foreign driver was Swedish Philip Björk, who was fourth in final points, just couple of points ahead Ville Mäkinen.
Manninen was fastest in time trials, and won two heats and was second in other two heats, so fastest man of the weekend was clear.Lehtonen and Roms had good fight for second place, after all heats they ended up equal final points and only less than one second faster heat time gave second position to Lehtonen.
Ville Mäkinen and Swedish champion Philip Björk had really good fight for fourth place. Ville Mäkinen was leading before last heat but not after that, Björk managed to climb to third place in that heat which gave him fourth place in final points.
In first heat there were big accident, when Tuomas Niinisaari crashed his boat combletely and his race was over. That was only bigger accident in weekend.
Race was organised very well and there were lots of happening through weekend. Wheather was rainy in Friday and Saturday, and Sunday sunny and hot. Whole weekend was windy and sudden blustery winds made racing more interesting. But everyone was asking same question, why there were no more foreign drivers? For example, this class is very popular in Sweden, why they all didn’t arrive to racing?
Mikki Fors won F2000 race
Saturday there were also F2000 class driving their fourth race of Scandinavian championship series. Fastest in time trials was Erik Stark before Ugis Gross. Stark also won first sprint race just before Gross. In second sprint race winner was Finnish driver Mikki Fors, who also won grand final race and also whole competition. Second was Erik Stark and third Johan Österberg. After this race, Mikki Fors is now leading Scandinavian and also EuroCup.
In junior class GT15, which is raced with 15 hp four stroke engines, there were Scandinavian championship. Fastest was Sebastian Rothman from Sweden, second was Linnea Lagerkvist and third Lars-Johan Lundmark from Finland.
There were also Finnish national championship classes. National junior class SJ15 drove two races trough weekend and 0250 drove one race. Fastest in both SJ15 races was Filip Roms, second in first race was Risto Lindström and in second race Anton Nyholm. Weekends best driver in O250 hydro racing boats was Teuvo Putkonen before Esa Rytkönen..

When can we expect JP Manninen to take the step up to the Scandinavian F – 2000? I like to see him there!
Well, I can tell you that the request has already arrived from JP, Im sure we will have to race him soon:)
Remember to take a look of the rules for Superlicens.
And let us have a F 2000 without all the problems we have seen this season. Then we also will have drivers.
We have already one or two that are interested here in Norway too.
Erik
The solution to the F2000 is:
1. Only 1 World Promoter
2. 1 European Spirnt championship - (No CUP)
3. Bring back the good old Scandinavian Championship, not mix it with EC - and lets have some great races to rec some drivers, and let them race Scandinavian Championship with NO SL.
Futher on, let the class have some "free time" from crashbox, airbag, new deformable sponsons etc etc. let the class grow. Remember history of F2000. When Ralf Frohling contacted Jose Luis the class had a few boats here and there. Jose invested in boats, build up the class and within a few years there was 28 drivers on the world cup list. We had record number of drivers in Scandinavia, a Perfect class in terms of competition in the President Cup run by Abdul Salam - strong championship in Italy for F2000 and also in France. Now we are clapping our hands for 1 race in Riga with over 20 boats ?!
There is a lot of tasks for the UIM president, Chulli - and hopefully he is "our right man" together with Iaccoianni. I really apriciated his interest for our class, and his laid back atitute in Riga. Im sure he spoke to more or less all drivers, and he had time to listen. Result ?
Well, we will have to see:)
I hope that Chiulli is not losing a valuable resource.
It is very important to have a Council close to the sport with persons with visions and strength.
By the 25 of Sept. all proposals has to be received at the UIM office for new candidates.
It is a little strange how little interest I have seen in different forums about how we are going to meet the future.
It is you and I that can change things by beeing interested in who we want to sit in the different positions in Monaco.
Erik
Very few wants to talk about this serious problem. Very many thinks there are no problems. So what will we do about it ?
My personal opinion is that the new president will have a full days work
for many months and years to make a modern and competitive federation, not to say a democratic one.
My advice to my own Federation is to ask the GA in Australia to form a commission or group to look into the present UIM. That means a
study of all the committees and sub-committees, the Council, all of it.
Further they must go into the Statues and By Laws and the whole system of Rules. They must look into the Promoter-question and the fact
that rules can be changed overnight outside the General Assembly.
We do not need to see a problem like the crash-box for the upper formula-classes nearly tearing the classes and the sport apart.
All because the misuse of power and personal satisfactions. We all must have been thinking of all the committees not been able to provide a solution - a result - They must look into the need of a professional body within the UIM itself working openly and transparent and in cooperation with the IOC (Int. Olympic Committee), dealing with contracts and agreements on behalf the sport all over the world.
I`m not sure my Federation will take this opportunity and do it by themselves alone. They need support from other countries too.
I have not all the answers. but sometimes the questions are more important.
What do you think ?
Erik
They can start to change the stupid "rule 312 Over Lap ". How do I explain this rule to our young drivers using of course their V bottoms?
This is may be OK for the cockpitboats, but for all the others?
