Terry Rinker wins the Mod U natinal title, Terry wins by 13 seconds on the 1 mile 4 pin course on the Kankakee river. Lynn Simburger was 2nd and Bruce Washburn 3rd.
The next race on the F1 Champboat tour is 27-28 of September and then we will see who can win the championship. Will it be Terry Rinker, Shaun Torrente or Tim Seebold ? Tim Seebold said in a cha online that today that " Its holiday weekend for us at the lake, the last big weekend, so I had to stay at the shop and take care of business"
Well, guess what, on Sept 27 – 28 his business will be to go as fast as the Seebold team can set up the boat, and try and win title. Only race wins will be good enough in the last two races of 08.
Thanks to Steve “the voice” Michael for picture and story´s from the nationals.
Enjoy the video of Terry Rinker, its a classic..

I didn`t enjoy it at all. On the contrary. How can a skilled driver like Terry
do a mistake like this I ask myself? I`m thinking of the landing ashore.
You must know Frode , if this had happened at our main event of the year on the river in Drammen crowded with people, that would be the end of racing over here.

Discuss this here, or at the H2o forum.

F,
But as an organizer of a race like the Drammen GP they are totally depending of full support from the Town Hall. I guarantee you an accident like this will be on the agenda in their first meeting and we can say good bye to any more races in this town. Mark my word !
If this boat had done the same maneuver at the upper turn bouy here in Drammen, Norway he would hit someone for sure and it would be a disaster to the sport and for those who were hurt or even worse.
Be realistic and don`t try to make our sport into a circus !
But what did really happen with Terry ? What went wrong ? Whas there any consequences? It surely must have been in the local papers. What did the public say ? What did Terry say?
Erik.
As our nations first european champion, and fan of your sucsess I will first say its an pleasure to discuss powerboat issues, as we both love so much.
I was probably all over the news, and what happen was easy, Terry "lost it" on his hot lap, drifted out and hit the ski ramp by accident, thats it.
never heard the comment from Terry about it, but it sure was a ride.
When you say I should be realistic, and don´t make our sort into a circus I have to say one thing.
For me the "circus" word is the way to go. Before we can manage to organize shows and circus we will never have sucsess. I´ve raced so many races the last few years, who has just been that, show and circus for the sponsors and spectators. We have to face it Erik, even we both love to race on the lake in Songe, get the speed out of the boat, air it out, work on the technic - turns etc etc to make that one perfect qualifying lap - there is no one to pay for a race - or a sponsor that is interested. Races now a days will happen in places where sponsors pays, and want a race on. Thats it, look at the reality, the europa cup race in F2 this summer was hosted on great events, BUT only 6 to 10 boats entered. In Riga, it was a show, a circus - party and a good show where the drivers all got a bit paid, result 22 boats on the water.
In all due respect, we have to admit to the fact that our racers are circus clowns - in a show called boatrace. We need the media, the fans and unfortunally the odd accident.

Can we learn something from it ?
You must have seen how UIM is losing their grip of the sport.
22 years with the former president at the wheel has almost put us back to the start.
You and I were lucky. We had leaders an clubs that were dedicated. Our country must have had more world and european champions , not to say world record holders, than most of the other member countries, considering the population (4 mill.) Have you ever been thinking of why, Frode ?
I look upon our sport as a serious one belonging to the world of Athletics and a member of the IOC (Int. Olympic Committee). I have not changed my opinion since my first win in 1960. I`m convinced I`m saying the same when they put the lid on. I do not like to bee a clown on or off the courses.
I hope your son will benefit from the serious side of the sport when he one day will try it out.
See you
Erik.
I quote '22 years with the former president at the wheel has almost put us back to the start'.talk about clowns driving, we had 22 years with one at the helm.what hapened to all the class's we had sd,se/f4, oe/f3, oi,t1, t2, and many more. the uim allowed these class's to fade.

In Riga it was show and circus you`r saying. I bet it was.
I heard a story of one english top driver beaten up by the police
and later was accused of having drugs in his pocket to cover it up.
I`m afraid hat was the end of the "circus" in that town for the boatsport
for a very long time.
Read the driver`s own story. It` s unbeleiveable !

Hi, of cause i know the true story, it happen to my "brother in racing", and nothing goes on in your family witch you do not know. Tragic end, but the Event (circus) was the best this year, thats my point.
To you David:
UIM:
Very few wants to talk about this serious problem. Very many thinks there are no problems. So what will we do about it ?
My personal opinion is that the new president will have a full days work
for many months and years to make a modern and competitive federation, not to say a democratic one.
My advice to my own Federation is to ask the GA in Australia to form a commission or group to look into the present UIM. That means a
study of all the committees and sub-committees, the Council, all of it.
Further they must go into the Statues and By Laws and the whole system of Rules. They must look into the Promoter-question and the fact
that rules can be changed overnight outside the General Assembly.
We do not need to see a problem like the crash-box for the upper formula-classes nearly tearing the classes and the sport apart.
All because the misuse of power and personal satisfactions. We all must have been thinking of all the committees not been able to provide a solution - a result They must look into the need of a professional body within the UIM itself working openly and transparent and in cooperation with the IOC (Int. Olympic Committee), dealing with contracts and agreements on behalf the sport all over the world.
I`m not sure my Federation will take this opportunity and do it by themselves alone. They need support from other countries too.
I have not all the answers. but sometimes the questions are more important.
What do you think ?
