Last race in Finland, he first round of the EC race saw only 11 boats. A shame with so many boats avalible. Now Tønsberg is officially cancelled, even the “news” has been out for quite a long time. Im sure this is only the first cancellation this week for F2. Stay tuned for more news on F2boat.com
Its a shame, what happens to our sport, is the crashbox issue killing the sport?
Tønsberg last year.

Hi everybody,
Due to the crises we have with the UIM F2 Powerboat Championships and due to the fact that on the 19th July we will have the WC SL 60 round taken place in Sundsvall where the new up comming drivers will compete. There they will be watching there hereos competing in F2 Scandinavian Championship and will be dreaming of becomming one day F1 Powerboat World Champion.
I urge that our UIM President would be invited to this special event and maybe all other interested parties that are working for the future of the sport to make a sacrifies and attend this event as well.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Jenkins

Hi all
I am the promoter of the South African Series and wish to inform you that our series is also being affected by the crash box issue. We were informed by our PSA president that two of our potential races, one in Namibia and the other in Mozambique will not be able to take place if all our boats are not fitted with crash boxes. I am of the opinion that such action would be to the detriment of powerboating as it would deny the people of the two African countries the oppotunity to experience the excitement of powerboating. There is also the cost and weight factor and some of our drivers will have to sit on the side. Hopefully someone will bring some sanity to the matter so that we can continue enjoying our sport.

the chickens have come home to roost.
It is this time of the year and the F2 drivers are whingeing about crash boxs. I personly do not agree with the crash box, the uim cannot control the structure of the box’s after the initial samples have been tested, as we have seen from two recent International F2 races.
when the crash box idea first came to light. anybody who disagreed with the concept should have contacted their national uim deligate and made their feelings known instead of leaveing it until the uim made it mandatory and then trying to make the uim reverse there rule.
I seem to remember two seasons ago a petition on this site about the use of crash box’s and a long list of drivers adamant they would not race with the crash box’s, then came the first F2 international race and a large proportion of those drivers on that list turned up with there boats fitted with crash box’s.The only way to deal with the uim is through dialog with your national authority and uim deligate.I agree with mike jenkins, try and get the new UIM President to some of the races as i am sure he will do more for boatracing than the last president, he left boatracing in a far more sorry state than it was when he took over the job.

P.S. Frode, you mention a crisis in F2 with only 11 boats turning up for EC race. Check the usa Champ-boat site , 13 boats for each of first two races and 11 boats for the last race , so the slump is not only a european thing.

Hey don’t blame Sture, blame your selfs…
Why cheating with the crashboxes?
Doesn’t you want safe racing?
How much money will you put on engines, propellers?
Put them in your safty instead.

Blame your own NA and UIM who disired about this rules…
Guess what the headlines will be if anyone getting killed in a fake Crashbox? Have you ever thought about that?

Yes a lot!The crashbox is just i good idea for someones who make money on it!The truth is that the crashbox is is so hard that the boat get guide into the canopy, see what happen in Riga when Yosef Crash with this Italian driver! So think again! The safetycell is hard enoght without crashbox! Why not UIM make any safetyrules for hydroplans and smal mono hulls where it`s no protection at all?????Because it`s no money there!!!!!!!Again THINK!!!!!!!!!

Hello to all the Racers and Fans.
There is not eny Motorsport in the World, where drivers are 1000% safty. There is allways a little Risk what ever we doing. If Peaple not prep. for risk : Better dont stey up in the morning .
The Problem as i see is : The Sport is not running by professionals! (Tecnical site).
F1 has a compination off 1 HP = 1,57 kg
F2 has a compination off 1 HP = 2,43 kg
F 700 has comp.off 1 HP = 1,2 kg NO CRASH BOX
last race in Germany (Brodenbach) Winner Boat
making average Speed from 158/kmh by (only) 1200mtr 2 180 degree turns. Thats realy fast.
But NO CRASH BOX .
Now : i ask my self : Is the worth of the O-700 Driver less than the F 1/2 Drivers ?????
This is only ! example …. The other thing is : The catamarans are close to a “Airplane”
How “Official Tecnical Peaple ” can dictate to
but on your “Flymachine” extra 40 kg in front ??
Have you ever seen, in a sports Aeroplane, two seater: when he take a 70 kg or a 110 kg passenger with, how hard the handling is. Or the existing 2 Seater promotion Boats, this will
only go good , mit 2.5 merc or with over 300 HP
in my ayes: the oficials creating a verry silly and DANGER construction
There is more other possibillities to make a stronger and eleganter solution . When the Boatbuilder and the “Superspecial Officals” work
together, with out PERSONAL BENEFIT.
Or is there more behind ????
Is there a “Willing” to kill the F2 Class ???
this is my coment, about Crasbox project.

Hi,
I am not a competitor in F2 but as a racer I would like to say my opinion about the situation also. I can somehow comprehend why UIM has implemented crash boxes in F1/F2 instead of classes like F 700, although it is at least equally dangerous if not more. Serious injuries or deaths in the F1/f2 classes will get a lot more publicity and attention worldwide and I think this does harm the sport more than similar cases in the lower classes. This has nothing to do with the worth of a driver’s life; it is just how it is. You can compare it with the FIA classes; the safest classes are the top ones, in the manner of safety inventions. A death in F1 cars have a lot more far going consequences than a death in carting.. Sponsors could drop out trough the whole chain, the public opinion is determined about what is read in top classes and so on… also inventions as crashboxes would kill smaller classes as it is even less money involved in them and a lot of them are more hobby based.
What I am saddened about is the actions that UIM take… this is not the first time they made wrong moves but this could easily be the most disastrous. I do not think we can blame anybody but UIM for the situation as it is. Constructors and competitors will always compete each other and I think that is what they should do. That is the way the hulls and technique will evolve. As there is money involved constructors and drivers will also look after their rights. That is at it should be also. UIM should be able to implement decisions and rules that they can monitor especially with a invention as complicated as the crash box issue. It is their duty to keep the sport stable and attractive and fair. Nowadays it seems they just want to bury their head in the sand and hope that the problems will solve themselves or be forgotten. I think they need to have a bit more control or classes like f2 will disappear. Nobody wants to invest money in competing in classes you do not know how the future will be…

Why not the F2 Famely make a new or change federation??
Make the rules together with the drivers!!
Let UIM play for themself and drink champain!!
They not need them at all!Try to make a class who look and handel proffesional!!Then maybe some sponsors will support the class, like it`s now they just turn around because none know when and where race are going!Just a idea, race after sst120 rules for the boats and engines!!!!
